Savinho will not be appearing for the pre-season matches, as he is set to start his training with his teammates only before the Community Shield match.
The Brazilian was signed by Manchester City on a 5-year contract on the 18th of July 2024. The signing was smooth for Pep Guardiola, as both Troyes and Manchester City are part of the City Football Group. It was City’s first senior recruit this summer. The initial signing was worth around £21 million and might rise to £33.6 million with add-ons.
The 20-year-old was part of Girona last season. The winger played a major role in the Spanish teams’ success, scoring 11 goals and making 10 assists. As a result, he was named in the La Liga Team of the Season. The Spanish club finished third, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Speculation about pre-season travel
Savinho’s Instagram story showing him on a flight created speculation that he was traveling to the United States to join the squad for the pre-season matches, but he is not. The decision to exclude the youngster from the pre-season matches is commendable. It gives him the space needed to prepare mentally, with many responsibilities ahead this season.
The South American is set to join the team at the CFA training facility on August 5th and City might expect the return of Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku, and other senior players as well. The official unveiling of Savinho will take place at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.
With the addition of the youngster, Guardiola’s team looks significantly stronger on paper this season. Although no player has left City yet, you can never rule out changes in the transfer market. Fans can expect Savinho’s debut for Manchester City against Manchester United in the Community Shield, as Pep might require his services.
