Manchester City’s new signing Julian Alvarez will link up with his new teammates at the start of pre-season in early July. The 22-year-old was Man City first signing of a very important summer for the club that has seen them sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Alvarez has been a regular starter for River Plate and caught the eye of many European clubs.
Joining Manchester City offers him the opportunity to hone his skills at a club with top-class facilities and a top-class coach. Alvarez may be thrown into the deep end depending on departures that happen this summer. Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva are all linked with moves away from the Etihad meaning the Argentine may find himself in the starting lineup early in his career.
Pep Guardiola in an interview said Julian Alvarez was an “option for now” and an “option for the future” which effectively rules out a loan move away from City. He is expected to be integrated into the side but the rate at which that will be done remains unknown.
As an addition to the City frontline, he offers versatility as has become a requirement for a Pep Guardiola side. Julian Alvarez is able to play across the frontline, featuring more as a right-winger and occasionally as a free-roaming #10. An exciting player with flair makes him a great addition to an already monstrous frontline. Whether or not some of these established stars leave in the summer, the exciting Julian Alvarez will have his chance to impress and cement his place as an option now.
