Real Madrid have identified Manchester City’s Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo as the replacement for the struggling Spanish right-back Dani Carvajal.
This season at the Spanish club, Carvajal has not been enjoying the best of his time, to say the least. Even though he still has his positives, injuries over the years have seen a major reduction in pace, which opponents are taking advantage of. Despite this, he still has his positives.
In the Super Cup final, which Barcelona won, the Spanish national team player, Alex Balde, was totally obliterated by the Catalan club’s young star player. Balde was able to go around Carvajal with such ease that it must have seemed frightening to the seasoned Spanish fighter.
Although there were not many Real Madrid players who came out of that game with flying colours, one might argue that Carvajal was the least efficient among the group that played that day.
Joao Cancelo himself has not been in the greatest form in recent times but at his best, you cannot get much better than the Portuguese defender. It should come as no surprise that Real Madrid is interested in him, but it seems doubtful that Man City will sell him.
The Portuguese defender is Pep Guardiola’s personal bet and he will not want to give him away. This will leave Real Madrid scratching and looking at other options to replace Carvajal.
