After Manchester City’s triumph on Liverpool at the weekend, everybody had praises leaped for ‘duo’ of Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
Both of them are top quality strikers, but would Manchester City come out on top playing both of them together – was creating some doubt in people’s mind.
All the doubters were sent back to their hills when Aguero and Gabriel destroyed Liverpool. At the moment it seems combination of Aguero and Gabriel is the ‘golden sight’ of this Manchester City squad.
And not only the supporters but also the manager Pep Guardiola wad impressed with both of his strikers combining on a good note.
Guardiola spoke to ESPN about the combination of Sergio and Gabril. Here is what he said :
“That means a lot for me, what Sergio did – a lot.
“They are both good guys and exceptional players and their relationship is top.
“You have all known Sergio for a long time. Of course, they both want to score goals and we need that.
“Strikers are always [thinking]: ‘I want to score more than my teammate’ but it is still important to have the ability to choose the right decision, as Sergio did.
“When it happens the next time, Gabriel is going to do that for Sergio.
“I do not say to my strikers: ‘Pass the ball’ – I tell them: ‘Score a goal, please!’
“But what I saw was good. We want to create something special in the locker room, so that was important for us.
“With the strikers we have, there is no doubt we will score goals. Those players live to score goals.
“But we also need our wingers – like Raheem, like Leroy – to get in the centre in those positions. That is so important now.
“We can’t just rely on two players – it is not possible.”
The combination has paid ‘dividends’ for Manchester City but it will be interesting to look how both of them combine going forward in the season.
