Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has asked the chiefs at Etihad Stadium to compound on their interest to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The Manchester Blues endured a relatively quiet transfer window as opposed to most of the noise-making rivals; however, this would also be because of how settled the squad has been in recent years. Only two players arrived at the club in the recently concluded summer transfer window: Savinho signed from Troyes, while prodigal son Ilkay Gundogan returned to City.
Room for incomings
While the incomings were dry, the Cityzens managed to raise over £100m, which came from the magnificent selling business that was conducted last summer as Julian Alvarez, Joao Cancelo, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Sergio Gomez, and Tommy Doyle were all shown the doors.
This has given some leg room for Guardiola to add to his roster at Etihad Stadium over the next couple of transfer windows. Which means that the Catalan-born coach could have the pick of the players he wants to bring to Manchester City if the squad needs strengthening.
That being said, Pep’s own future lies beyond blurry lines at the moment, with his contract at City running down at the conclusion of this season. There are reports suggesting that the chiefs at Etihad Stadium have given him until Christmas to fixate on his future at the club beyond the ongoing campaign.
Man City Marc Guehi push
However, the reports now claim that the former Barcelona boss has ‘asked’ City chiefs to sign Guehi, who impressed during the summer Euro 2024 alongside Harry Maguire, representing the Three Lions badge.
The report further states that Pep thinks signing Guehi would help him ‘destroy the Premier League’ with the potential move for the Crystal Palace defender. The Citizens are ‘willing to spend’ €70m to secure the England international’s services.
The City gaffer is ‘keen to sign him’ as they look to ‘further consolidate their dominance in England’ and ‘the arrival of Guehi could be key to that’.
Guehi has been subject to amplified links with a move to Newcastle United along the recently concluded summer window; however, no move to St. James Park materialised.
The situation will be different next summer, with Guehi having less than two years on his deal at Selhurst Park.
