Oscar Bobb suffered a fractured leg some days before Manchester City opened their Premier League campaign with the diagnosis requiring him to spend three to four months on the sidelines. The injury could not have come at a worse time for the 21-year-old as it looked like he was bound to be in Pep Guardiola’s first team plans this season following his breakthrough into the senior side last year.
Bobb scored twice last season for Manchester City, most famously the match-winning goal in a win over Newcastle United in the Premier League. His form saw a dramatic upturn in pre-season as he struck twice and had three assists before dropping a brilliant display in the FA Community Shield.
Norway boss, Stale Solbakken has spoken about his compatriot’s injury and said the following: “He has been in rehabilitation in Barcelona and has been followed up, everything is fine. I spoke with him on the phone ten days ago, and he was surprisingly positive. He is counting down the days.”
Oscar Bobb’s injury was more unfortunate than anything else as a back-up striker’s role was set in stone for him at the Etihad Stadium this season after Julian Alvarez’s sale to Atletico Madrid.
Manchester City well-covered until Oscar Bobb returns
Man City’s season is about to get a whole lot busier with the Champions League getting underway later in September but with Erling Haaland starting the season in familiar form, the team’s attack is in safe hands.
The former Borussia Dortmund marksman has started the Premier League with seven goals in three matches and scored successive hat-tricks prior to the international break in wins over Ipswich Town and West Ham.
He has been in impeccable form having rested well in the summer, something which a lot of players across the European leagues have not done due to the Copa America and Euros running for a month.
Bobb will return to the fray just in time for the busiest period of the season when the domestic calendar starts to come thick and strong with the EFL Cup and FA Cup, a competition in which Pep Guardiola heavily rotates his line-up at least in the initial rounds,
He will play a crucial role for City, more so in the second half and as such, the player as well as the manager would choose to not have him available at this point of the campaign rather than later on.
As things stand, Bobb will be back by January as per the latest estimate and with all the determination to prove himself, it will not be a surprise if he gives Guardiola enough confidence to rotate him with Haaland.
