Manchester City has their sights set on Arsenal’s outstanding English midfielder Ben White as a potential reinforcement for the center-back position.
White is widely regarded as one of the brightest young defensive prospects in the world. After making a name for himself on loan at Leeds United and later at Brighton, the defender caught the attention of Arsenal, who ultimately signed him.
The 25-year-old centre-back has been one of the pillars of Mikel Arteta’s resurgent campaign. Due to injuries at left-back and right-back, he has been forced to play in positions that are not typically his during this season.
In point of fact, White is quite adaptable. He is versatile enough to play any position across the backline, including holding midfielder in a midfield three formation. Pep Guardiola is the type of coach who places a high value on players with his skill set.
Man City have quite a few centre-backs in their squad in likes of John Stones, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Manuel Akanji. Nathan Ake is also a shout-out for that position but he has played mostly at left-back.
Despite so many options, the reason why Man City appreciate Ben White would be because of the amount of cover he would provide across a range of positions. It makes sense to sign a player like White.
However, Arsenal are in no rush to trade White because it is not a need for them. Additionally, the athlete will not want to lose out on being a part of a team that has a chance to win the championship. It is quite improbable that this move will happen.
