The rivalry between Man United and Manchester City continues for yet another topic. This time it is the acquisition of Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly for whom United have had the longing since January transfer window. But City have somehow emerged as the surprise bidders.
According to reports, City have bid £85 million for the Napoli centre-back making their search for a Kompany replacement brisk and clear. We have been talking a lot about Harry Maguire and Matthejs De Ligt but let me enlighten you that Koulibaly is no less a beast.
According to to Gazzetta dello Sport, City have taken a sharp drift and turned down their attention away from potential likers to long scanned defender by their opponents. Manchester United may still be the favourites but following a bid by City, Koulibaly can make his way to other part of the town.
The Senegal international has 4 years of contract left in Naples but Ancelotti’s vision to bring in fresh talent may please him to sell the centre-back to either Manchester, Red or Blue.
If the bid is quantified and becomes tangible, it will be the highest bid for any defender in Premier League history, breaking the £75 million record deal of Virgil Van Dijk of Southampton a beast in Liverpool.
Manchester City’s determination to replace Kompany will surely break the records. Be it a £90 million buy for Harry Maguire or a £5 million lesser bid for Koulibaly. Both these players are in wish list of Manchester and it is highly likely that both may end up in this beautiful city. Interestingly, the colour of their jersey will be different.
