Manchester City’s pursuit of Brighton left back, Marc Cucurella is reportedly moving slower than the club would have desired. Reports in the media indicate that Brighton are holding out for £50m with Man City not ready to match that fee.
An initial offer rumoured to be around £30m was swiftly rejected by the Seagulls who don’t feel pushed to accept anything significantly below their asking fee. They believe that they can rake in a substantial amount for the 24-year old who enjoyed a stellar campaign last season.
With the new Premier League season kicking off next weekend, City would be keen to settle this transfer as they seek to defend their crown. Cucurella is said to be unhappy with Brighton’s stance with the player said to be absolutely convinced that playing under Pep Guardiola will improve him as a player.
Personal terms should not be a problem and Man City just have to agree on a fee with the club to secure their man.
He is seen as a direct replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko who joined Arsenal last week leaving a huge gap at left-back.
New round of negotiations are expected to be held this week as Manchester City seek to complete the transfer by early next week. Should they fail to land Cucurella, they may look at Alex Grimaldo who has been on the club’s radar in the past.
