Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted that both Manchester City and Liverpool deserve and are worthy of winning the Premier League title this season.
The two English giants have locked horns with each other in a fierce battle at the top of the Premier League table which looks like it will go down to the wire and the last game of the season to decide the eventual champions of the country this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently at the summit of the Premier League with 85 points in 34 games, two ahead of Manchester City who still have one more game in their hands.
After facing North London side Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final of the Champions League, the blue half of Manchester will compete against the same opponent in the Premier League at the weekend.
Last season, Manchester City stormed their way to the Premier League title amassing a record 100 points in the process but Liverpool is not going down without a fight this term. The season before when Chelsea won the title, the Blues finished the season with 93 points but Liverpool and City can surpass those numbers and one will still end up with nothing to show for their efforts.
However, Guardiola spoke to reporters ahead of the second leg encounter in the Champions League quarter-final clash against Spurs and said that only one team can win the title, “If we don’t win these games this week, we lose both titles, This season we had an incredible opponent in Liverpool. Usually 84, 85 points is enough to win the title. We both deserve it but only one can get it.”
The Spaniard went on to explain that City will have to try and win their remaining games and just enjoy the pressure they are under, “We have got five games left in the league, everything to play for and we’ve got to keep believing and enjoying the pressure.”
