Manchester City learns about RB Leipzig’s central defender Josko Gvardiol and his price tag.
Just a few days into the Champions League victory and Man City have already begun the preparations for next season. A Champion mindset what one may call; Pep Guardiola finally has a new guy under his radar albeit he does not require any change in his squad.
There has been news of players leaving Manchester City but this is the first such news of a new player being signed by the Treble winners. The Citizens may be without the likes of Bernardo Silva, Ikay Gundogan, and Aymeric Laporte. While the Portuguese winger is heavily linked to Paris Saint Germain, Gundogan may join the capital of Spain. However, it is Laporte’s replacement that we will see Gvardiol as.
Manchester City already have a defence laden squad with the likes of Akanji, Nathan Ake, John Stones, and Ruben Dias holding central defence. However, Stones’ rise in the midfield position has led to a void in the defensive bench thus a request for new defender.
The Croatian international has had a sensational season in Germany with RB Leipzig which was followed after a dreamy World Cup performance for his country. The 21-year-old scored 3 goals this season, one of which came against Manchester City in the Champions League. He already has admirers in Manchester apart from Pep Guardiola who want him to travel to England and strengthen their squad.
Josko Gvardiol, however, will not come in cheap. The youngster is said to cost somewhere around £75million which is almost 5 times the amount RB Leipzig had signed him for(£16 million) three years ago. His attacking acumen along with defensive aptitude is what makes him a perfect match and replacement of Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte has interests from Aston Villa and Unai Emery would be more than willing to sign the Spaniard looking for game time under his belt.
