Manchester City Academy: Kabore to Benfica, Kayky to Sparta

Manchester City’s ongoing efforts to develop and strategically loan out their young talents continue with Issa Kabore and Kayky securing loan moves for the 2024-25 season.

Issa Kabore, a promising fullback, will spend the season with Benfica, with Primeira Liga club covering his entire salary and no buy clause included in the deal. Meanwhile, winger Kayky Chagas has been loaned to Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands, where he hopes to gain regular senior team experience. These moves are part of a broader flurry of activity within Man City’s academy, which has seen new signings, contract extensions, and a key departure.

Talented youngster Issa Kabore is set to join SL Benfica

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore will spend this season playing in the Portugal Primeira Liga, with Benfica covering his entire salary. Importantly, Romano reported that no buy clause would be inserted in the deal. The 23-year-old has spent the last three seasons on loan at Troyes, Marseille and most recently Luton Town. Additionally, Kabore has already made 40 international appearances. Benfica are participating in the UEFA Champions League this season and Kabore’s development at the Portuguese side should be monitored carefully.

Manchester City confirm Kayky’s loan to Sparta Rotterdam

Manchester City have confirmed that young winger Kayky Chagas will spend the season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam. The 21-year-old has not had regular playing time at a senior level so far and will be hoping to get regular minutes at Netherlands.

Kayky graduated from the Fluminense academy and made his senior debut for the Brazilian side. His impressive showings in Brazil convinced Man City to sign him for an approximate total package of €15 million. The winger played with Manchester City’s under-23 team in the Premier League 2, scoring seven goals and assisting four in 14 appearances.

The youngster made his club debut in January, coming on as a substitute in a 4-1 victory away at Swindon Town in the FA Cup. Kayky proceeded to make his Premier League debut the following month, coming on for Riyad Mahrez in an away victory against Norwich City.

Significant movement in the Manchester City academy

Fabrizio Romano has also reported a lot of movement in the Manchester City academy over the past few weeks. Two highly rated prospects in Stephen Mfuni and Christian Dunbar-McDonald signed new contracts with the Cityzens despite significant interest from other Premier League clubs. 

Man City also won the race to sign two exciting youngsters in Divin Mubama and Marlow Barret. 19-year-old Mubama joins from West Ham for a fee of £1.2 million while central defender Barret joins from Coventry City. The major departure from the academy so far has been Kane Taylor, who joins Aston Villa for £750,000, with City having included a 25% sell-on clause
