Manchester City boss has claimed that midfielder Kalvin Phillips still has a future at the club following his loan move to newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Phillips’ one year loan move to Ipswich has officially been confirmed by Man City. Having struggled for playing time recently and Guardiola’s admission that the 28-year-old struggles with tight spaces when playing in the midfield, it was decided that he should be loaned out for him to get some game time.

A club statement read, “Kalvin Phillips has joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan. The 28-year-old will spend the 2024/25 campaign at the newly promoted Premier League side.

“Everyone at Manchester City wishes Kalvin well during his time at Ipswich.”

Asked whether the former England international still had a future at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola reacted positively, claiming that Phillips should see the loan move to get as much playing time as possible.

“Kalvin Phillips can absolutely become a Man City player again in the future,” the manager said. “He has to have minutes, he has to recover game time; play, play, play, play. We thought that maybe he would not have the minutes that he has to be, that he deserves to be, and that’s why it’s better to have minutes, and the chance maybe in the future to come back here. So this is what it is.”

Phillips has shown a lot of enthusiasm following his move to Portman Road: “This is a day I’ve been waiting a number of weeks for now and I’m very happy to be here.

“I’ve had some great conversations with players I know here and also with the Manager, who I have obviously heard a lot about, and I’m excited to be here and be part of his team, playing how he likes to play the game.

“The conversations with Kieran McKenna and Mark Ashton have been really good and I followed Ipswich’s season closely last year, so I know the journey the Club has been on and it’s a great story which I’m now excited to be a part of.

“I want to play as many games as possible, enjoy playing football again and help the team win as many games as possible in the Premier League.”

Man City Core wishes Kalvin Phillips the best of luck for his season-long loan move to Ipswich Town.
