When Manchester City signed Ferran Torres to mark a youthful phase of the club. Signed from Valencia, Torres has had a reasonably strong start to life in Manchester despite the competition for places. His most memorable game for Man City would be away to Newcastle United where he netted a stunning hat-trick. Torres has been out of action for a few months after getting injured on international duty with Spain, ruling him out until early January.
In mid-November, news broke that the 21-year old Spanish attacker had reached an agreement with Barcelona to move to the Camp Nou outfit. The news came as a shock to many who least expected it considering Torres is currently out injured. His club have remained mute over the alleged agreement. Reports in the media suggest that the player has informed Pep Guardiola of his desire to make the move with his manager reportedly agreeing as long as an economic agreement can be reached.
The player seems to have a desire to play under Xavi who is an idol for many young Spanish players. It is equally understood that the player will not attempt to force a move away if the two clubs fail to reach an agreement. Barcelona are ready to offer €45m owing to their recent financial struggles while City are standing firm in their demand of €60m. Members of the player’s camp and Barcelona believe that an agreement can be reached despite the gap in valuation. A move in January is a possibility with Xavi keen on bolstering his attack in the coming weeks as he seeks to change the fortunes of the club in the new year.
