The 67th edition of the Ballon d’Or this year will be conducted on 30th October in Paris. Manchester City’s ace striker and record-breaker Erling Haaland is backing himself for his first Ballon d’Or. Erling Haaland undoubtedly had a breakthrough season and one where he broke innumerable records but in Lionel Messi, he faces a tough competition. The veteran star added to his glory galore the World Cup title and is surely a contender for his
eighth Ballon d’Or.
The Norwegian striker scored 52 goals in 53 appearances last season also adding the feather of FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League under his belt. The centre forward knows that no one can possibly fight his accolades at the club level and acknowledging his performance he said:
“I believe in myself, I really do,” he told France Football. “I know I can still improve a lot, I’m still young. But yes, I think I have a chance this year.”
“I dream of accomplishing great things with my country. We are a small country of barely 5.5m inhabitants, so it is not easy. But I dream of participating in a Euro or a World Cup.
“From there to imagining winning… It’s not impossible, but hey… For now, we’re above all fighting to simply qualify and that’s my goal. First, a qualification for a major tournament; then we can dream of bigger things. It’s a huge challenge and I like challenges.”
The Champion striker is also competing with Kylian Mbappe who single-handedly “almost” won France their consecutive World Cup title courtesy of his hat-trick in the finals.
