Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is reportedly considering his options this summer, with clubs in the Saudi Pro League, including Al-Ittihad, showing interest in the 30-year-old Brazilian.
Ederson’s contract expires in 2026, but Manchester City are keen to negotiate an extension. The Sky Blues are not looking to sell him and will only allow a move if he submits a transfer request.
The Brazil international is an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s squad, having been the undisputed number one for City over the past seven seasons.
In addition to being an exceptional shot-stopper, Ederson is arguably the best goalkeeper in possession. One of the fundamental components of Guardiola’s philosophy is building from the back, and Ederson fits this perfectly. The Brazilian’s powerful left foot is ideal for launching quick counterattacks with his accurate long balls, and his composure on the ball always provides a passing option for the defenders.
Manchester City signed Ederson in 2017 for a reported fee of £35 million from Benfica. His impressive performances with the Portuguese giants, where he won the Primeira Liga twice in two seasons, caught the eye of City scouts. The £35 million transfer fee was the second-highest ever paid for a goalkeeper at that time.
Since joining Manchester City, Ederson has enjoyed a highly successful career at the Etihad. Over seven seasons, he has won six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, and one UEFA Champions League trophy.
Individually, Ederson has garnered several awards, including three Premier League Golden Gloves and the FIFA Best Goalkeeper award in 2023. He has also been named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year twice and the IFFHS Team of the Year once.
While Ederson’s departure would be a blow for Manchester City, the club remains hopeful of retaining him. City are also confident in their ability to adequately replace him should he decide to leave. More updates on the situation are expected in the coming weeks.
