Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has spoken about his future at the club following weeks of reports linking him with a move to the Saudi Pro League. The Brazilian is said to be keen to leave, with manager Pep Guardiola also expressing doubt about Ederson’s future at the Etihad Stadium.

Saudi Interest in Ederson

Al-Nassr made a €30 million offer for the Brazilian earlier this month, which City rejected. The Citizens are holding out for a fee in the region of €50-60 million. With City’s reluctance to lower their asking price, Al-Nassr withdrew from negotiations. Al-Ittihad, another Saudi Pro League club, also showed interest in Ederson but left negotiations like Al-Nassr after City made it clear that they would not accept anything lower than €50 million.

Guardiola has continued publicly asking Ederson to stay, stating, “I would love, from the bottom of my heart, that Ederson stays. He’s a key player for us. It’s so difficult to replace a top player like Ederson.”

“It depends on him, but I would love him to stay,” Guardiola continued. “I cannot imagine our process, our success these last years without him. He is an important figure in the locker room with his presence and many things.”

Ederson Refuses to Commit

Speaking to the media after Man City’s defeat to AC Milan, Ederson refused to commit to leaving or staying at the club.

“There isn’t a definition yet. To hear Pep saying that was very gratifying. It’s now my eighth season with him, living many good moments, also some bad ones. He’s a guy that is easy to work with, he’s a football genius and everyone knows that. So it’s really good to hear that from him.

“I’m happy here, having a good moment with my teammates. I’m enjoying getting my fitness back on track. I’m very calm, whatever happens is in God’s hands and He knows the right way to go. Whatever He gives me, I’ll be happy with.”

Guardiola started Ederson against AC Milan and named him captain. As things stand, it looks likely that the 30-year-old will stay at the club, with no definite interest from any Saudi Pro League club as of now.
