Manchester City made light work of Slovakian champs Slovan Bratislava, winning by a comfortable 4-0 margin in their second Champions League game this season.

They have entered the top eight of the UCL table after some brilliant goalscoring exploits from IIkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, and James McAtee.

The victory doesn’t come as a surprise since it was expected that Bratislava will face a stern test against Pep Guardiola’s men. They have qualified for the prestigious European competition for the first time in their history.

Meanwhile, the Cityzens needed these three points after a tough draw against Inter Milan in the earlier group contests.

After defeating the Super Liga side yesterday, the men in blue have now equalled Manchester United’s 16-year-long record of remaining unbeaten in 25 Champions League games.

As per TNT Sports, the Red Devils went 25 games unbeaten from 2007-2009 under the guidance of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Their historic run came to an end when Barcelona defeated them in the 2009 finals by a 2-0 scoreline.

Meanwhile, Man City were last defeated by Real Madrid (3-1) in the semi-final second leg of the 2021-22 season. What followed is a stunning 25-game unbeaten streak in which they won 17 times.

Of course, Manchester City were knocked out by Madrid last season, but the elimination came via a penalty shootout, as both sides shared spoils in the quarterfinal games. Ajax are the only other team to go 20+ games unbeaten in the Champions League, achieving the feat in 1986.

Man City will now be eyeing another historical record when they face Sparta Praha at the Etihad Stadium on the 24th of October. A victory here, and they will shatter the unbeaten run record in the UCL.

It is hard to see where their run will end as they prepare themselves to go all out for the in-demand silverware. Guardiola’s side played beautiful football during the 2023 edition, lifting the prestigious UCL title after defeating Inter in the finals.

The English giants will now shift their focus on their next Premier League clash against Fulham on Saturday.
