Barcelona aims to hold Joao Cancelo for the second successive season through a loan from Manchester City.
The 30-year-old Portuguese player played for Barca last season and appeared in 42 matches in total. He had been a great asset for the Spanish team last season and they are very interested in pulling him in for the upcoming season.
As negotiations progress, Man City has quoted £25million for a permanent move of the right back. Whereas, Barca who’s in difficult financial management is figuring out ways to get back Joao without paying the aforementioned fee. Though Blaugrana cannot accept the deal in the table, they instead asked the Blues to loan him back for £7m. Barca is not alone in the race as a Couple of Saudi Pro-league teams are interested in buying Cancelo. The right-back has only ideas of staying at Barca and is not willing to move to other teams.
Joao Cancelo was purchased for a whooping £65 million deal from Juventus in 2019 and has created a great impact in Man City’s success.
Things got a turn when the rift between Joao Cancelo and Pep Guardiola popped out. The right back’s future at Man City is a question mark as he is no longer in the plans of Pep Guardiola. And this is the reason for Joao’s interest in leaving the Etihad Stadium.
Jorge Mendes, the agent of the Portuguese player is in talks with the Blues to negotiate about the deal on the table. Ideally, Man City would love to let go the player permanently. However, Barcelona are not financially blessed and it is more important that the player is off our wage book for the upcoming season. Thus, there is a huge chance that Cancelo will leave the club on another loan deal this summer.
Before entering into Barcelona, during the second phase of 2022-2023, he was loaned to Bayern for a while. With Joao’s contract with Manchester City expiring in 2027, he has made 154 appearances with 21 assists so far.
