An overview of the Manchester City players representing their countries at the quarterfinals stage of the 2024 UEFA Euros. Out of the ten remaining players representing Man City at Europe’s premier international competition, only five of them will move on to the semifinals. Portugal’s penalty shootout loss to France means four of City’s ten players at the Euros will go home early. Manuel Akanji will also depart following his missed penalty against England.
SPAIN vs GERMANY (2-1)
Rodri: Another world-class performance by the holding midfielder. He was strong in defence, making seven tackles and winning 11 duels. Rodri was also composed on the ball, distributing play well with a passing accuracy of 94%. Spain looks like the favourites to win this Euros.
PORTUGAL vs FRANCE (0-0, 3-5 after penalties)
Ruben Dias: Overall, the centre-back had a good game, making a fantastic block to deny Randal Kolo Muani.
João Cancelo: With Kylian Mbappe on the left wing, Cancelo was more disciplined this game, choosing to stay back rather than venture forward. He made a fabulous pass.
Bernardo Silva: Stayed deeper than usual to assist Cancelo deal with the threat of Mbappe. Distributed play extremely well and converted his penalty in the shootout confidently.
Matheus Nunes: Came on in extra time with just one minute left to play. Failed to make a single touch.
ENGLAND vs SWITZERLAND (1-1, 5-3 after penalties)
Kyle Walker: Playing as a wide centre back, he had less freedom to go forward. He looked fairly solid in defence but lost Breel Embolo for Switzerland’s goal.
John Stones: A decent outing for the centre back. Looked good in possession, distributing play well with some nice long balls. Could have done a better job intercepting the cross which led to Embolo’s goal.
Phil Foden: Still searching for his first goal contribution of the Euros. Had some nice moments on the ball but lacked the end product. Worked hard off the ball, pressing well.
Manuel Akanji: Had another good game, marking a below-par Harry Kane out of the game. Unlucky to have missed the decisive penalty, although it was a poor attempt.
NETHERLANDS vs TURKIYE (2-1)
Nathan Ake: A decent game for the defender. Took a booking for the team before being substituted in the 73rd minute.
