Julian Alvarez’s future at Manchester City uncertain

Julian-Alvarez

Julian Alvarez is reportedly considering a move away from Manchester City, with several top clubs interested in his services. The Argentine forward is unhappy with his playing time at City and seeks a club where he can secure regular game time. Alvarez has largely played second fiddle to Erling Haaland during his time at the Etihad.

Alvarez has attracted interest from several high-profile clubs. Paris Saint-Germain has recently made contact with his camp, while Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have also shown strong interest in the 24-year-old. However, any club wishing to sign Alvarez will have to meet City’s hefty asking price of around £68 million.

Manchester City are keen to keep Alvarez this summer and are expected to reject any loan offers for the Argentina international. They will reluctantly accept bids only if their valuation is met, making it unlikely that a club will meet the high asking price.

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo commented, “Julián Álvarez is a Manchester City player and I believe he won’t be moving from there.

Alvarez signed for Manchester City in January 2022 for a reported fee of £14 million from River Plate, where he stayed on loan until July 2022. In his two seasons at City, Alvarez has started 44 Premier League games, scoring 20 goals. With Kevin De Bruyne injured for much of last season, the Argentine received more game time, starting 31 games.

Alvarez is a versatile player with excellent technical skills and a strong understanding of the game. Pep Guardiola deployed him across the front line this season, but he primarily filled in as an attacking midfielder in De Bruyne’s absence. Alvarez impressed in that role, not only scoring goals but also contributing creatively to the team.

Alvarez’s future at City depends heavily on the situations of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva. If both stay at the club, Alvarez may look to move on to avoid being a backup. However, if one of them leaves, Alvarez could secure a place in the line up.

While Alvarez’s departure would be a significant loss for Manchester City, it may be necessary as his ability merits him a starting spot at a top club.
