Manchester City are ready to offer breakout star, Rico Lewis, a new lucrative contract after his impressive performances this season. The 18-year old has been a revelation for Pep Guardiola and has benched Klye Walker and Joao Cancelo, with the latter moving to Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the current season.
Lewis’ contract expires at the end of next season and the club are ready to tie him down to a new long-term contract as soon as possible.
Reports in the English media indicate that Lewis is currently on a £5000 per week contract and could be offered a huge 400% pay bump if he is to sign the new contract. Guardiola clearly rates the youngster and the club will move to tie him down as quickly as possible with the view of letting him develop under the current manager’s tutelage.
Lewis has enjoyed good form this season and became the youngest goalscorer in the Champions in the 3-1 Sevilla in November. He has received plaudits for his performances with the most notable one coming from his manager after the club’s win against Liverpool in the Carabao cup last month. His ability off the ball makes him a very suitable player for Guardiola’s style of play and at 18-years you can only imagine that he will get better with time.
It is expected that in the second half of the current season, he will play an even more starring role for City, as the club seeks to overthrow Arsenal in the Premier League and attempt to finally capture the elusive Champions League trophy.
