Manchester City has reportedly missed out on the opportunity to sign Portuguese forward Rafael Leao as the young talent edges closer to signing a contract extension with AC Milan.
The 22-year-old has been a standout player for the Italian club since joining in 2019. He has had yet another impressive season this time around scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in 30 matches across all competitions.
Leao’s impressive performances have caught the attention of several top clubs, including Manchester City. However, it appears that the Premier League side has missed out on the opportunity to bring the forward to the Etihad Stadium.
According to recent reports, Leao is close to agreeing to a contract extension with AC Milan, which would keep him at the club beyond 2024 which is when his current deal expires.
Leao’s decision to remain with AC Milan is a disappointment for Manchester City, who were said to be interested in bringing him to the club. The Portuguese forward’s versatility and ability to play as a striker or winger would have been a valuable asset to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
In the end, it seems that Manchester City will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements, as Leao’s future looks to be secured with AC Milan.
