The final round of matches for the Champions League group stage of 2022/23 sees Manchester City take on Sevilla on Wednesday night. Man City have sealed their top spot and qualification to the Round of 16 of this year’s competition. On Wednesday night, it is expected that Guardiola will rest most of his starters and give a chance to some of his fringe players. City come into the game on the back of a 1-0 win against Leicester City while Sevilla succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Vallecano over the weekend.
TEAM NEWS
MANCHESTER CITY
Erling Haaland will not feature in this dead rubber match as he continues to recover from an ankle problem. Kyle Walker remains a long-term absentee while Cole Palmer is a doubt for the game.
SEVILLA
Jesus Corona, Fernando and Youssef En-Nesyri are ruled out of this game for Sevilla. Jesus Navas and Marcao are injury doubts for Jorge Sampaoli’s side who are really struggling for form.
MATCH EXPECTATIONS
For Manchester City, this could easily be a training match for them and give the fringe players a chance to stake claim for a starting berth between now and 14th November. John Stones could get a start as he steps up his recovery ahead of the World Cup. There is very little at stake and Man City may not come out guns blazing tomorrow night.
This game is a dead-rubber game for both clubs with Sevilla already being assured of a place in the Europa League. Both clubs are expected to rest key players as the pre-World Cup schedule climaxes over the next ten days. Jorge Sampaoli would hope that his players can pick up some sort of form on Wednesday after slumping to yet another defeat over the weekend.
